Subject: Verification Requirements and Notice of Criminal Trespass
You are receiving this letter as a courtesy because you are either required to register within the municipality of Merkel, Texas or relocating to Merkel, Texas as a Registered Sex Offender . This letter is to inform you of what this agency requires from you pursuant to “CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE, TITLE 1, CHAPTER 62: SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION PROGRAM (CCP)”.
If you have previously done your verification with this agency, there have been some changes in the past several months. If you are currently on supervision, Parole, or Probation, your local office has also received this notification. Upon initial registration, you were informed of your verification requirements per the aforementioned CCP reference. This agency adheres strictly to those requirements and failing to abide by those will result in a recommendation to the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office and may result in additional criminal charges. Before you will be verified by this agency, you MUST provide the following;
Valid Texas ONLY Identification/Driver’s License; and
(2) two forms of address verification;
Acceptable: Utility bill, Vehicle Registration, Mail from State Agencies, Lease Agreement or Letter from landlord certifying your residency;
Unacceptable: Junk mail, Driver’s License/ID Card, Notarized hand written letter from “landlord” or agreement; and
If there are vehicles registered to your residence OR you operate a vehicle, you must provide a copy of the current vehicle registration; If you are not able to obtain a copy of the registration, the vehicle license plate, make, and model. (If you operate a motor vehicle, you MUST provide a copy of the current registration)
If employed, provide proof of employment, pay stub or letter from employer, address and name of employer, immediate supervisor name and contact information; and
(2) Two verifiable contacts that are related to you that do not reside in the same residence; and
If you are providing a cell phone number as your primary contact number, either a service agreement or receipt that indicates the phone number and provider; and
Name, date of birth, and contact information for everyone that you are sharing a residency with, this includes children under the age of 18.
If you are required to verify annually, you will need to submit and verify all this information annually. If you are required to verify more often than annually, you will be required to provide this information annually on your birth month.
Regardless of when your initial verification; you will verify annually on your birth month from that point forward.
Example; Initial verification was completed in June 2018 and your birthday is in September 2018, you will need to complete a verification in September 2018 +/- 30 days.
If you are required to verify quarterly, regardless of your initial verification, you will verify on your birth month and every third month thereafter.
Example; Initial verification was completed in March 2018, and your birth month is November 2018, you will verify in June 2018, September 2018, and November 2018 then every third month from that point.
Hours for verification are Monday – Wednesday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, excluding holidays, by appointment only. There are absolutely NO verification done over the phone and no walk-in verification. CHANGE OF STATUS PROCESS:
Anytime any information provided in your verification changes, you are required to notify your verification agency. At no time will this agency accept any changes of status over the phone. The same times for verification apply to change of status requests. If the status change relates to any of the information required to verify, you must provide the same information as if you were verifying. Example; Change of address will require the same (2) two forms of verification.

Art. 62.064. ENTRY ONTO SCHOOL PREMISES; NOTICE REQUIRED
This agency works closely with the Merkel Independent School District (MISD). Pursuant to Tx. CCP Art. 62.064, the MISD requires all registered sex offenders that request access to ANY MISD property and/or building owned or managed by MISD, to contact a MISD representative as designated by the MISD Superintendent at the MISD Administrative Building located at;

Failing to abide by this and accessing any MISD property without the express consent and permission of the MISD is punishable by arrest pursuant to Tx. Penal Code Sec. 30.05 (a)(1). This letter acts as and is filed with this agency as PERMANENT notice to the person addressed in this letter.
NOTICE TO OFFENDERS:
The Merkel Police Department will aggressively pursue all person(s) who attempt to or do abscond and fail to meet the registration requirements set forth by Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Please ensure that you are making maximum effort to adhere to, not only our local policy, but State Law, when it pertains to the duties you have to register and verify as set out in your specific probation and/or parole requirements.
